Just a Little Motivation PDF Print E-mail

11/17/08

Colleen and Dan Hoyumpa are clients here at MPT.  On Veterans Day we were talking about our service people and the amazing sacrifices they make.  At some point in the conversation they told me about a guy who had the most positive outlook on life, even though he had no arms and no legs.

I had never heard of this guy, so I went on youtube and looked him up.

Wow, what an amazing story this guy has!

Here is a short clip I found on him from youtube:

It is not fitness related, but I know that sometimes it seems like life is hard on us.  Financially things have been crazy lately and while Texas has been better than some states, I know that some are starting to feel the pinch.  It is nice to put things in perspective at times like these and it is nice to know that someone who has it worse than we do has such a positive outlook on life.

Make it a great day San Antonio!

86 Years Old and Still Going Strong PDF Print E-mail

11/13/08

My grandmother, Irene Campbell, just turned 86 years old on Monday.

Today, she came in to exercise and I got her on film doing 10 "perfect" pushups.

Hopefully, she serves as a little motivation to those who think they may be too old to start exercising or getting in shape!

Veterans Day PDF Print E-mail

11/11/08

At a time when our nation is conducting 2 wars, there is no holiday more important than the one we celebrate today.

The men and women who serve our nation are doing some amazing things right now all around the world, in wars and other missions.

My prayers are with all those who have served, including both of my grandfathers and my new father-in-law.

A special thanks goes out to PFC Paul Taggart and St.Sgt. Edwards who both trained here at MPT after rehabing from injuries sustained in Iraq.

I don't think anyone who has trained here has had more of an impact on me than these two men.

Thanks to all of you who have sacrificed for this country.

Make it a great day San Antonio and be sure to say thank you to a veteran!

Dave Ramsey and Fitness PDF Print E-mail

11/10/08

Dave Ramsey is a financial guru who has a nationally sindicated radio show that airs during the week here in San Antonio.

Dave's philosophy is simple.

Live debt free.

During his show, Dave takes calls from people who have gotten themselves into debt and he helps them determine a way to get out of debt and live a free and happy life.

Every once in a while someone will call Dave and create excuses for why they cannot get out of debt.

With every solution Mr. Ramsey creates, the caller finds an excuse as to why he cannot use that route to get out of debt.

Finally, Dave says, "listen, your going to have to cut down your lifestyle and start living on rice and beans, so that you can afford to get out of debt."

Dave doesn't take no for an answer.

He believes everyone can be and should be debt free.

I cannot tell you how many people have the same type of excuses for getting in shape!

They don't have enough time.

There work is too exhausting.

The kids wear me out.

Excuses are easy to create!

It is much more difficult to find yourself a path to get in shape and then to follow it and be consistent on that path.

Today I want to be your Dave Ramsey of Fitness.

I am telling you to quit making excuses.

Give me a call and lets find a way for you to get in shape.

You don't have to use my services.

I am offering you a free consultation today!

Call me and lets set a plan that is right for you.  Don't waste time make excuses.  Today is the day that you start out on a new path to being physically fit!

Make it a great day San Antonio!

Shin Splints! Ouch! PDF Print E-mail

11/7/08

This month I have had a few clients suffering from shin splints.

I have not had shin splints in years, so I had to go do a little research to determine what exactly causes them and what solutions there are to this painful condition.

Here is what I found:

-Shin Splints are cause by a number of factors, but the two biggest are: Overuse (such as jogging more than normal or jumping more than normal) and Running  on Concrete

-Treatment for shin splints is similar to many other overuse injuries.  R.I.C.E.- Rest.Ice.Compression.Elevation.  For additional relief, talk to your doctor about taking a pain reliever.  Another important treatment is to massage the muscle.

Shin Splints stink and are not a fun feeling after your workouts.

Make it a great day!
