12/29/08

No matter who you are, if you plan on getting results from your fitness program, you are going to have to push yourself further than you are right now!

It is the overload principle and it says that a body will adapt to the stresses placed upon it, so you must continue to change and improve the stresses placed on your body during a workout.

If you are looking to take your body to the next level, then make sure you are taking your fitness routine to the next level!

Add more weight to your lifts, run faster and jump higher!

Take it to the Next Level and make it a great day!

Reason #5: The Wrong Program PDF Print E-mail

12/16/08

With all of the books and infomercials that trow one size fits all workout routines at us, it is no wonder so many people get frustrated and don't succeed in reaching their fitness goals.

If you have been working out consistently for 8 weeks or more, you have made sure that you have avoided the 4 other pit-falls I discussed before and you still are not seeing the results you want then you are probably on the wrong program.

Another problem that people have is that their goals change and they don't change their workouts accordingly.

If you are not achieving the goals you set for yourself, re-evaluate your workout program.  Is it designed to help YOU get the look YOU want?

Remember that every body reacts differently to workouts and diets.

Yes, science has found some consistencies, but even these formulas have their flaws.

If you don't know if you are on the right plan, then give me a call @ (210)415-5934 and let me help you find the plan that will get you where you want to be!

Reason #4: Lack of Support PDF Print E-mail

12/15/08

Lot's of people start diets and fitness regimines with nothing but the best of intentions.

Unfortunately, MOST don't achieve the goals they were looking for when they started.

In my experience I have found that the people who achieve the best results are those who have someone or many people who are supporting them in their effort.

Now, I do think that having a personal trainer to hold you accountable and coach you is important for anyone looking to achieve high fitness goals.  In this instance though, I am not speaking of a personal trainer.

I am thinking more along the lines of a spouse, a best friend, a sibling, a work group, etc.

These are the people that see you day in and day out for many hours at a time.

They are the ones you need to rely upon to help you reach your desired fitness goals!

Someone like this can help keep you on track late at night, after dinner when all you want is to go out and get ice cream.  They are the ones who will motivate you to get out of bed and get to the gym on the morning when all you want to do is sleep in.

If you don't have someone who supports you like this, it will be very hard to succeed at achieving your fitness goals.

At some point you will get battered down and you will want to stop.

These people supporting you will be the way you will get through that plateau and make it to your fitness goals!

If you are fighting to stay motivated and keep on your fitness plan, then follow these recommendations:

  1. Ask someone to be your accountability partner.  Sometimes, the best accountability partner is your most annoying friend or family member.  The one who calls too much or stops in uninvited!  These people may get on your nerves, but they will be the support you need.
  2. Ask another person to be your workout partner- Find someone who is at your relative fitness level and get them to be your workout partner.  The MPT Fitness Boot Camp is a great way to have several workout partners!  This partner/partners will be the drive that pushes you past your plateau when your workouts are becoming a grind. Without a workout partner it will be too easy to let yourself skip workouts or not push yourself during a workout.

If you follow these recommendations and build up a support system comprised of these two types of people then you will be successful in achieving your goals!

Make sure that these two people or groups of people are different, because their roles are different and their ability to stay on top of your progress will be compromised if you mix their roles.

Make it a great day!

Reason #3: Poor Eating Habits PDF Print E-mail

12/12/08

The third reason most people don't succeed in achieving their fitness goals, is that they don't follow a diet plan that will help lead them to their goals.

It doesn't matter what your goals are, you need to be eating properly for your goal.

There is a ton of research on nutrition and no matter what your goal is, there are hundreds of nutrition books designed to help you match your diet with your goals.

If you have not seen this yet, Oprah recently said that her weight is going out of control.  Why?  Because she can't control her eating habits.

Her trainer, Bob Greene is the trainer that is on the show The Biggest Loser, so you know that he can get people results with his workouts.

The problem is, she cannot control her eating.

So how do you control your eating without creating a Yo-Yo effect like Oprah.

Well, it goes back to having a plan.

I have noticed with a lot of people go all or nothing on their diet.  They either eat like crap or they try doing a crazy strict change where they change everything all at once. They cut down on their portion sizes, don't eat red meat, carbs, dairy, and they definently don't eat sweets.

Well my recommendation is to find the middle ground.

Start by cutting down on your portion sizes.

Keep a food log, to keep yourself on track and stay consistent with cutting the portion sizes down.

Once you are eating less, start limiting the amount of cheese or sweets in your diet.

*Notice- I did not say quit eating them, I said LIMIT them.  This is life, we want to enjoy it.

Move through a step or two a month like that and you will be amazed at how healthy you are eating in 6 months and you won't yo-yo like Oprah!

Keep up the great work and check back on Monday for Reason #4 that people don't reach their fitness goals.

Make it a great day San Antonio!
