The MPT Jump Rope Team! PDF Print E-mail

4/7/09

I have decided that I want to start an MPT Jump Rope Team, we will be competing against this group: http://soonereyo.blip.tv/#1826380

*Click on the link to watch the video.

Okay, so I know it is a little after April Fools day, but I am not going to be putting together a jump rope team, I just thought this video was super impressed by this group!  Thanks to Jon and Mia for sending me this video (and no Jon and Mia, I don't think we will ever get that good at jump rope even if we were to do jump rope during every boot camp).

If you are serious about getting in shape then you should definitely consider getting a jump rope.  Just 5 minutes with a jump rope will leave you feeling exhausted and you will have burned a high number of calories for just a few minutes of exercise.  A HIIT session with a jump rope is a great way to melt body fat!

I hope you all have a great day!  The weather is perfect so go grab a jump rope from target for $.99 and go get in a 10min HIIT session this afternoon.  It will wear you out!

Don't Forget About the Legs! PDF Print E-mail

4/3/09

Do you ever notice that everytime you go into the gym, there are eight guys standing at the dumbbell rack doing bicep curls, but there is no one at the squat rack?

And women, don't think that ya'll are any better.  The treadmill may use your leg muscles but in most cases it is a cardiovascular/aerobic workout, not an anaerobic workout like squats or lunges.

It is easy to avoid working the legs.

Lets be honest, legs are a much more exhausting group of muscles to work than your arms, chest and back.

BUT...the legs are so important to your overall physique that you are really hurting yourself if you are not working on them.

Just by working your legs you will increase your body's lean muscle mass significantly, thus improving your resting metabolic rate, which will allow you to burn more calories and thus more fat.  Additionally, most leg exercises, such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, box step-ups, etc force you to use muscles from your entire body.  By using multiple muscle groups at the same time you are burning a higher number of calories.

If you are serious about getting in shape, then get serious about working your legs!

Want to whip your legs in just a few minutes today?

Then do these exercises:

2 sets of walking lunges (20/leg)

2 sets of squats (12reps)

2 sets of calf raises (12reps/leg)

2 sets of squat jumps (12reps)

Make sure that you are holding some heavy dumbbells during the walking lunges and you are using good form!  Use a barbell for the squats!

Cook for the Week! PDF Print E-mail

3/23/09

For the last few weeks Sarah and I have both been very busy.  Neither one of us will get home until 8pm or so and I am out the door by 5:30am and she is out the door by 7:30am.

With life being so hectic, we had to find a way to eat a healthier breakfast.  So, last night, Sarah made us some great tasting Banana Nut muffins and a container of fruit salad.  She made enough to last us all week for breakfast!  This means that we will both be heading out the door with a healthy meal and a positive start to our day.

If you are having trouble eating properly during the hectic week, then take advantage of your weekends.  Cook a bunch of chicken and vegetables as well as making a run to the grocery store for fresh fruits and salad ingredients.

By cooking for your week on the weekends you will find that life is a lot more tollerable and you will be more successful at acheiveing your goals.

Make it a great day San Antonio!

Schedule It! PDF Print E-mail

3/16/09

Wow!  I can't believe I have taken so long to write a blog!  I am really going to be better about this in the coming weeks as I am going to put it in my schedule to get done!

That is my advice to you today as well.

Life is hectic.  We get carried away with work way too often and it takes away from our quality of life.

Start setting aside a specific time to workout.  Then, once you have it in your planner, don't allow yourself to replace it with anything else.  Treat just like you would a work meeting.   This will help you be more consistent with your workouts and you will be happier because of the results you will see.

You should also do the same with free time.  Set aside some free time for yourself each day, but plan it out.

Want to play with your kids?  Put it in your schedule.

Want to exercise? Put it in your schedule.

Want to play golf? Put it in your schedule.

Life can really move fast.  If you don't schedule in some YOU time, it is easy to become overwhelmed and unhappy.

So, starting today make sure you schedule yourself some time to exercise and some time to just enjoy yourself!

Make it a great day San Antonio!
