Applebee's and Weight Watchers PDF Print E-mail

5/6/09

Did you know that Applebee's has a Weight Watchers Menu?

I didn't!

Today, one of our boot camp members, who is a waitress at Applebee's was telling me about this program and I was suprised to hear about it!

She said that the "Weight Watcher Cops" will even make Applebee's take something off of the menu if it doesn't meet the Weight Watchers guidelines.

Now, I have not done a lot of research on this program, but I do know that many of you like to follow the weight watchers guidlines and I know that even more of you like to eat food that you know is healthy, so I thought you should hear about this program!

For more information, visit: http://www.applebees.com/Menu_WW.aspx

If you want to help out one of my clients, give me a call and I will tell you what location she works at and you can sit at one of her tables!

Make it a great day San Antonio!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words PDF Print E-mail

4/30/09

A few days ago I had a prospective client stop in the Thousand Oaks studio to discuss their fitness goals and how MPT could help them get in shape.

As they came in, one of my long time clients was leaving.  I introduced them and then the prospective client and I walked around the studio as I showed them around.

When we arrived at the back of the studio, I pointed out a picture on the wall to the prospective client and I asked her if she recognized anyone.  She looked at the picture for a minute and said, no, I don't think I do.

I think pointed out the girl in the picture, whom she had just met minutes ago in the studio.  She looked at me and said, "You're lying, that's not her."  After another second or two of looking at the picture, she finally came to the realization that it really was her!

She then took out her checkbook and she is now a client here at MPT.

I am not writing this to brag to you about the success we have had here at MPT.  What I want you to realize is the importance of taking a picture every few weeks as you go through your fitness program.

A picture at the beginning of your workout program and a picture 6-8 weeks down the road will show a big difference.  Even if the scale is only down 5 or 6lbs, you will see massive changes in the picture.

If you rely on the mirror, you are setting yourself up for dissapointment, because you won't see the dramatic changes you have made as these changes will be gradual and won't show up in the mirror.

So, if you are trying to motivate yourself, then go take a picture.  Every few weeks, take a new one and see what kind of progress you are making!  You will be happy you did.

Make it a great day San Antonio!

Weight Gain is as Dangerous as Smoking! PDF Print E-mail

4/15/09

As many of you know the other trainer who works here at MPT with me is named Robert Clark.  He does a great job with personal training and absolutely loves to help people get in shape.

I want to help all of you get to know Rob a little better, so I asked him to write a few blogs.  Over the next couple of weeks I will post those blogs here.

Here is Robs First Blog about Smoking vs. Obesity:

A new study by Oxford University claims obesity is as dangerous to health as smoking.  Epidemiologist Dr Gary Whitlock of Oxford University, who led the analysis, said: ''Excess weight shortens human lifespan.  "In countries like Britain and America, weighing a third more than the optimum shortens lifespan by about three years.  "For most people, a third more than the optimum means carrying 20 to 30kg of excess weight. If you are becoming overweight or obese, avoiding further weight gain could well add years to your life.''              So many people frown upon smoking, including myself.  But lets be honest, an obese person giving someone flack for smoking is being a bit hypocritical.  Obesity is every bit as dangerous as smoking.  You can gradually kill yourself with hot dogs and sodas just as you can gradually kill yourself with cigarettes.  So get that weight down and keep it there!  Just some “food” for thought. (Yes I know that’s lame).  Keep Training!                                                                                                                Regards,                                                                                                               Robert Clark

So, what do you think?  He did a pretty good job writing his first blog didn't he?

Hopefully it helps those of you who are considering working out again to kick it in full gear and get it done!  If you are trying to quit smoking and trying to get in shape, this article should really motivate you!

Make it a great day San Anotnio!

More San Antonio Personal Training Success Stories! PDF Print E-mail

4/10/09

I think that if you asked most personal trainers why they got into this field, they would tell you that it is because they wanted to help people.

I am no different.  When I started as a personal trainer in college, I knew that I would be able to make some money and help people at the same time and to me, that seemed like a great combination.

What I didn't realize when I started was just how much I would live and die with each of my clients successes and setbacks.  Helping people get in shape has turned into my personal goal.

Yesterday was an amazing day for me because I had 2 clients that reached milestones in their training.

Caroline has been one of my favorite clients here at MPT because she has dedicated herself to getting in shape.  She is willing to put in the hard work to get in shape.  Today, Caroline reached one of her biggest goals by losing 30lbs since November 24th.

I could not be more proud of Caroline as her hard work has put her in a position to achieve great results like this.

The other person I want to talk about is Carl.  Carl has been with me for nearly a year and a half.  When he started here at MPT his goal was to lose the remaining body fat he had and to add a little bit of muscle so he joined our fitness boot camp.  Well, after a year in boot camp Carl had reached the low single digits as far as his body fat % and his muscles were clearly visible.

He decided that he needed to put some weight back on however, because he was just getting TOO SKINNY!  So, Carl signed up for personal training.  We have been working to increase his muscle mass while keeping his body fat % low.

I am happy to say that Carl still has a very low percentage of body fat and since he moved over to personal training, Carl has increased his body weight from 155lbs to 170lbs over the course of 4 months.

Additionally, Carl has increased his overall strength tremendously.  At 50+ years old Carl is working out with 140lbs on the bench press and is squating 150lbs+.  These are great numbers for anyone, but particularly for someone who started out having trouble bench pressing 85lbs and squating 95lbs.

Congratulations to these two friends.  They have worked hard to get their results and they deserve the pride that will come with their improved physique.

Make it a great day San Antonio!

The MPT Jump Rope Team! PDF Print E-mail

4/7/09

I have decided that I want to start an MPT Jump Rope Team, we will be competing against this group: http://soonereyo.blip.tv/#1826380

*Click on the link to watch the video.

Okay, so I know it is a little after April Fools day, but I am not going to be putting together a jump rope team, I just thought this video was super impressed by this group!  Thanks to Jon and Mia for sending me this video (and no Jon and Mia, I don't think we will ever get that good at jump rope even if we were to do jump rope during every boot camp).

If you are serious about getting in shape then you should definitely consider getting a jump rope.  Just 5 minutes with a jump rope will leave you feeling exhausted and you will have burned a high number of calories for just a few minutes of exercise.  A HIIT session with a jump rope is a great way to melt body fat!

I hope you all have a great day!  The weather is perfect so go grab a jump rope from target for $.99 and go get in a 10min HIIT session this afternoon.  It will wear you out!
