Good Morning Alamo City!  I hope everyone enjoyed the start of college football last night and I hope you are excited about Saturday when my Fightin' Texas Aggies kickoff our football season against Montana State.  I will be yelling at 6pm on Saturday from the second deck of Kyle Field!

While in College Station I will probably visit one of my favorite little hole in the wall restaurants called Mi Cocina.  Mi Co (as it is known) serves some of the best chips and salsa, not to mention their enchiladas and tamales.  I know as a personal trainer I am only supposed to eat grilled chicken and asparagus, but this weekend I will probably cheat and indulge myself in a little Mi Co before the football game Saturday.

I mention this because I have heard from several clients that they also fight the Mexican food addiction and I have heard more than one of them say that they are not sure they can shake it.  Well, while I am a personal trainer, I am also human and I recognize that my clients are too.  It is difficult to change a lifestyle around in one year, much less an hour a day, three days/week, so here is what I tell my clients when they are trying to turn their lifestyle around, but they are not sure they can do it overnight.

When you go to Alamo Cafe or El Chapparal here in San Antonio, it is easy to order a bowl of queso and eat a tortilla or two, followed by a cheese enchilada dinner or tamale dinner.  This is to say nothing about the chips and salsa you eat to start off the meal.  By the time you get done, if you are like the rest of San Antonio you will have eaten anywhere from 600-1000 calories or more.  The next time you go to eat at your favorite restaurant, ask your server to bring a to go box out with your food.  When your plate arrives, immediately take half of everything that is on your plate and put it into the to go box.  Now you can eat the food on your plate guilt free and I guarantee you will be full and you won't have to loosen your belt.  Over time you will learn what to eat and when to eat it, but to get started just pay attention to your portion sizes and exert some control.  You can do it, and your physique and overall health will thank you.

So go out tonight and enjoy yourself with some friends and family, just make sure that you pay attention to how much you're eating.

Make it a great day San Antonio.

The MPT San Antonio Fitness Boot Camp PDF Print E-mail

8/30/07

Well, the success of the MPT Fitness Boot Camp is starting to catch on.  We had an article written about us today in the North Central News, and that has casued the phone to be ringing with people hoping to sign up for our next session.

Here is a link to the article: http://www.clickitsa.com/content/blogcategory/62/476/6/6/

If you are interested in joining the boot camp, give me a call and get signed up today before all the spots are filled.

I hope everyone has a great day (it shouldn't be too hard with both the Cowboys playing and college football getting kicked off tonight!), and please don't hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions about our personal training or our fitness boot camp.

Just Do It! PDF Print E-mail

8/29/07

Not only is the title of today's blog a catchy slogan for Nike, but it is also an attitude we should all take towards fitness and life in general.

This week, I was working out with Steve Edwards, a new client of mine who happens to be a successful web designer, when he complimented my website.  I thanked him for his compliments and told him that while I love the way it looks, there were still some functional aspects of the site that I was going to try to improve, but that I simply had not found the time to make those changes and updates.  After I told him that, he looked at me and told me point blank to quit being lazy and get it done.  I replied that I really don't know much about computers and that I would have to call my web guys (www.sa247.com) to have them make the changes.  Again, he looked at me and told me to quit making excuses, to search on Google for tutorials on how to make the changes to my site and then to get it done.  Well, here I am writing on a blog that I installed on my website on my own.  It may not seem like a big deal, but I am not very computer savvy, so it is a big deal to me because I quit procrastinating and found a way to get it done.

Many of you have heard me tell you the same thing regarding exercise.  Quit making excuses, and go outside and get your cardio in.  Every single day except for about 4 weeks/year in Texas it will either be too hot, too cold or raining, and if you use those as reasons to not exercise then you will never get it done.  Today I am telling you to just do it!  Get outside and go for a jog, a swim or a bike ride.  Maybe you could call some friends and go play basketball or sand volleyball, or maybe you can organize a small touch football game.  Anything to get you outside, get you moving and get your heart rate up.  Just do it!!

One of my clients who has already gotten after it this morning is Leslie Coleman.  Leslie is a participant in my August boot camp who has done an amazing job of getting out there and getting it done.  It is not easy to get up at 5:30am to make it to boot camp at 6:00am to then run, do pushups, situps, squats and lunges in the San Antonio humidity, but Leslie has done it.  As a matter of fact, she has done it so well that she has lost 17 pounds since she began boot camp at the start of August.  Leslie quit making excuses for herself, she became active by joining our boot camp, and she adjusted her diet to be more healthy.  She also now has the results that come from just doing it.  She is looking and feeling better and her co-workers are taking notice.

What are you going to do today to help yourself reach your fitness goals?  Maybe you want to join Leslie for our September Boot Camp, or maybe you will go out for that jog you have been telling yourself you will do tomorrow...for the last six weeks.  Whatever it is, get out there and just do it.  Today is the day for you to quit making excuses and start working towards your goals.  When you are done, e-mail me what you did today to get you moving towards accomplishing your goals.

Make it a great day!
