Organic Foods vs. Natural Foods PDF Print E-mail

8/20/08

Do you know the difference between organic foods and natural foods?  I didn't until I saw this video this morning on yahoo: http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=289004&cl=9082226&src=finance&ch=633459

Many of you have told me you eat only organic or natural products, so I thought you might think this was an interesting video.

Hopefully it helps you keep from over spending on a product that may or may not be what you are looking for!

Make it a great day San Antonio!

"Now, I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you’ve heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans traditionally love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball player, the toughest boxer. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans." -Gen. Patton in the movie PATTON.

The quote above is crude, it is ugly, it is almost barbaric...it is without a doubt one of the most inspiring speeches ever.  The speech comes from the start of the movie PATTON when Gen. Patton is "speaking" to a group of army soldiers before heading into WWII.  It is a tough speech, but it gets you fired up, because it is what America is all about!  American's love to win!

This week I have been absolutely addicted to watching the olympics and in particular watching Michael Phelps just obliterate the competition!  Phelps isn't just one or two strokes ahead of the competition, he is body lengths ahead of the second place swimmer!  He leaves no doubt in anyones mind that he is the absolute best in the world.

As I watch Phelps and the other American's compete in the Olympics I get a rush of adrenaline that gets me jumping out of my chair.  It is absolutely thrilling.  To be honest though, it is not a whole lot different then what I get to see here at the MPT studio on a regular basis.  It truely gets my adrenaline pumping to watch my clients (who all become my friends) push themselves to a new level.  Whether it is someone reaching their goals of a 250lb bench press or one of my new clients being able to jog a lap without stopping for the first time, it is exciting!  American's hate to lose!  American's hate to be held back and they hate it when they feel like they cannot accomplish something.  At MPT I get to see the best part of individuals, because I get to see them bust their rear-end until they reach a goal and I get to see the excitement and sense of accomplishment they feel when they reach that goal.

Michael Phelps is special and he has obviously put in countless hours in the pool to get great results.  My clients are just as special and push themselves beyond their limits to reach their goals.  Congrats to Michael Phelps and to all of you who make MPT what it is!  You should be proud of yourselves.

50% of the Equation PDF Print E-mail

7/28/08

Okay, so you've been working out and you have been seeing results, but they are not as profound as you would like them to be after 2 months of tough training.  What are you missing?

My guess is that your eating habits are not what they should be and that is what is holding you back.  Nutrition is 50-70% of the equation no matter what your fitness goals may be.  If you want to lose weight then eating is important.  If you want to add muscle, then nutrition is important.  If you want to improve your athletic performance, then nutrition is important.

It has been a real eye opener for me with our Fitness Boot Camps ( http://www.sampt.com/fitness-boot-camp-in-san-antonio.html ) to see the vast difference in results between someone who eats properly and someone who does not.  I have not graphed the difference to determine precisely what the numerical difference is, but I would venture to say that those who eat properly nearly double the results of those who don't follow a well rounded nutrition plan.

If you are not seeing the results you want to see from your personal workout program then consider what it is that you are consuming.  Nutrition is 50% of the equation.  Your workouts may be great, but if you cancel out the benefit of your workouts by eating poorly, then your results won't be as good.

Childhood Obesity and Adults PDF Print E-mail

7/8/08

Last week a study came out that caused many of the radio shows in San Antonio to talk in disbelief of the number of out of shape and obese kids we have in Texas.  I don't remember the exact numbers the study found, but I do know that it is not too much different than what we have heard in the past.  Kids in Texas, accross the United States and the world are fat and out of shape.

Where do you think these kids learn their habits?  Their parents and other adults that have a prominent influence in your life!  If you are a parent, aunt, uncle, grandma or grandpa, reading this blog and you are out of shape, please don't take what I write as an insult, but instead as a calling to do what you know you need to do, not just for yourself, but also for those who look up to you!

As an adult, you are a role model for someone.  You may not realize who it is that looks up to you.  It may be a child, a friend or maybe a co-worker, but someone is looking at you, trying to emulate what you do.  Many of us know what we should and shouldn't do.  We don't smoke as we know that can cause cancer and we don't want our children to think it is okay just because we do it.  We don't drink and drive because it is not safe and we don't want our kids to think it is okay as they get older.  Why do we think it is okay to be fat and out of shape?  It can kill us just like smoking or drinking and driving.  Our kids see these habits and copy them for themselves.

As a parent and as a role model, you need to get out and exercise.  You need to eat right.  You need to set the proper example for your kids!

Make it a great day San Antonio!
