I was recently reading this article: http://blogs.hbr.org/bregman/2010/07/why-friends-matter-at-work-and.html and I started thinking about my own clients and the effect that they have had not only on myself but on the friends and family that surround them.

For most of us working out is simply a matter of looking good or staying healthy.  What we don't realize however is how our decision to workout may be affecting those that are closest to us.

For a few of my clients the effect they are having on others is crystal clear.  Colleen and Dan are a husband and wife team who workout with me individually 3 times a week.  Colleen then comes and joins us for our morning boot camps, typically 5 times a week.  This summer they have brought their 2 kids with them to their individual workouts and the kids have been loving it!  They have started enjoying exercise so much that they now join Colleen a couple of times a week for boot camp as well.  They don't just play around either, these kids get after it!  The kids may never understand the positive benefits they derive from working out at a young age, but their parents have set them on a course for a healthy and successful life.

Another of my clients, Robert, has been working to get back in shape after becoming hundreds of pounds overweight.  Roberts dedication has produced great results and after putting EIGHT new holes in his belt, he will soon be buying a new much smaller belt.  This hard work has not gone unnoticed by his coworkers either.  As a matter of fact, Robert has inspired his employer (a major company in San Antonio) so much that they are now introducing a "wellness competition" based on Roberts success, with the grand prize of $10k!  Robert may or may not win the prize, but the fact that he has motivated a company to this level means that his impact will likely get hundreds of his co-workers in better shape and in the end it may save lives!

You may not realize the effect you are having on those around you by choosing to workout or not, but I guarantee you, there are people around you that are studying your moves and will mimic you...hopefully for the better.

Make it a great day San Antonio!

Best,

Nick
